Serves: 4
- 4 slices King’s Hawaiian Sweet Bread, cut into 1 1/2-inch slices
- 2 cups strawberries, sliced
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. freshly-grated orange rind
- 1 tbsp. butter
- powdered sugar
- maple syrup
- Cut each slice of bread in half. Using serrated knife, cut a pocket into each half and fill with strawberries.
- Heat skillet and melt butter.
- Combine eggs, milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, and orange rind. Quickly dip, do not soak, slices in egg mixture.
- Add slices to skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides.
- Serve immediately and sprinkle with powdered sugar and top with additional strawberries and/or maple syrup.
NOTES:
- Keep egg mixture well blended when dipping.
- Other favorite fruits can be substituted for strawberries. If using frozen fruit, make sure to thaw and drain so the bread does not get mushy when stuffing.
