Strawberry Stuffed French Toast

Serves: 4

  • 4 slices King’s Hawaiian Sweet Bread, cut into 1 1/2-inch slices
  • 2 cups strawberries, sliced
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. freshly-grated orange rind
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • powdered sugar
  • maple syrup
  1. Cut each slice of bread in half. Using serrated knife, cut a pocket into each half and fill with strawberries.
  2. Heat skillet and melt butter.
  3. Combine eggs, milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, and orange rind. Quickly dip, do not soak, slices in egg mixture.
  4. Add slices to skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides.
  5. Serve immediately and sprinkle with powdered sugar and top with additional strawberries and/or maple syrup.

NOTES:

  • Keep egg mixture well blended when dipping.
  • Other favorite fruits can be substituted for strawberries. If using frozen fruit, make sure to thaw and drain so the bread does not get mushy when stuffing.
